I beelined for maximum Summoning skill, of course.I got there around level 4? I initially paired up with Sebllle as a rouge, and that was a fantastic mistake. I went with an elf as a heavy summoner build. But so far I'm doing rather well (I'm just shy of level seven, close to finishing off Act I). I'm not at all minmaxing, so I'd guess my build might have issues eventually. I'm only using the YouTube builds channel as reference to what to dump my points into. I'm not following any guide, just exploring and going through the section as I come across things. I see what you mean about fane being main necro, I need to find a better weapon for him other than a makeshift sword that I found. I set her as wayfairer and she has the crossbow. I made it to the beach island and found Sebile and took her as a companion. I think it's sin-tee that has a lot of YouTube vids on builds. I restarted my game with fane as the main character, lone wolf talent and the necro skills and points from the a youtube channel I found that had solo builds. Either that or use summoning and drop it when you get to the end of the first map. Some advice because chaoslink is right, pure necro is one of the worst builds early on in the game but they become really good later. Not sure if the guide you're following already has info like this so sorry if you already knew. I personally like Lohse's story more than the other 2 so I'd choose her but pick whoever you like the most doesn't matter that much. Ifan/Lohse/Fane are the best second picks because they get extra crit chance and crit damage. Does this difficulty just require a bunch of attempts and hoping for one lucky string of misses and crits? I'm confident with more levels we could get this, but this first hurdle. It's not like our builds are wrong or gear is too low. Not sure how we could have breezed through Classic TPKing once or twice but reached such a brick wall this early on. There aren't many other quests to get us close to lvl 4, and those there are involve similar fights. And we use the dialogue loop-hole to position and buff prior to combat, and backstab when it pops off. This is with food buffs, potions, scrolls, every piece of armor we could buy from collecting every bucket and shell in the opening area. It's TPK in three turns with one bad guy burned down 2/3rds and the rest untouched. They do 30-50% of our health/armor per turn. Now we're stuck on the first big fight, the hound master group (also lvl 3) under FJ square. We're doing coop second playthrough together (Classic diff was a joke, so we thought let's up it). Holy heck, I am stuck on Tactician mode at lvl 3. Or maybe I am just spoiled from 5e and need to git gud. I guess, running away and chaining ccs is tactical, but is it fun? I wish there was a 5th difficulty between Classic and Tactical for Veterans, with Smart AI and more health but the same damage, so careful party planning, positioning and cooldown management could prevail, without the need to apply a Swiss vaults level of cheese. I assume with better gear the game becomes a lot less ridiculous, but in Tactical I found my melees regularly dieing in a single turn, to a single enemies basic attacks, forcing me to resort to really degenerate tactics. The difficulty gap is absolutely astonishing, it doesn't even feel like the same game. only to find out Classic mode is a complete joke. Long story short, I got penetrated butt to skull so violently, by the end of level 3 I rerolled a new save on Classic mode. I am a very experienced DnD player, having beating Solasta Cataclysm blind and other unbalanced stuff like that, so I went in straight for Tactical mode. The difficulty settings in this game are, to put it mildly, strange.
